Enjoy an evening of thoughtful songs and plenty of familial harmonies with Grammy Award-winning American Folk singer Loudon Wainwright III and acclaimed songwriters Suzzy Roche and Lucy Wainwright Roche.
Born in Chapel Hill, North Carolina, Loudon Wainwright III came to fame when “Dead Skunk” became a Top 20 hit in 1972. He had studied acting at Carnegie-Mellon University, but dropped out to partake in the “Summer of Love” in San Francisco, and wrote his first song in 1968 (“Edgar,” about a lobsterman in Rhode Island). His songs have since been recorded by Bonnie Raitt, Johnny Cash, Earl Scruggs, Kate & Anna McGarrigle, his son Rufus Wainwright, and Mose Allison, among others.
Released in 2014, Haven’t Got the Blues (Yet) is the 26th album in Wainwright’s long and illustrious career. It follows his acclaimed Older Than My Old Man Now album—“my death n’ decay opus,” as he calls it, and 2010’s Grammy Award-winning High Wide & Handsome.
After a lifetime of performing and recording, Suzzy Roche is enjoying singing on the road with her daughter Lucy Wainwright Roche. Lucy and Suzzy’s first recording, Fairytale and Myth, won the popular vote for Best Singer-Songwriter album of the year at the 2014 Independent Music Awards. The duo’s second album, Independent Music Award-nominated Mud & Apples, was released in 2016.
Originally from Park Ridge, New Jersey, Suzzy Roche is best known for her work with the vocal group The Roches, alongside sisters Maggie and Terre. She is the author of the novel Wayward Saints and the children’s book Want To Be in a Band? Suzzy is also an active member of a New York City-based experimental theater company known as The Wooster Group.
Born and raised in Greenwich Village, Lucy Wainwright Roche carries on the family traditions, although her first career choice out of college was to teach elementary school. Her critically acclaimed recordings and performances have earned her spots opening for artists like the Indigo Girls, Dar Williams, Girlyman, Amos Lee and her father.
Preceded by two EPs, 8 Songs and 8 More, she released her debut album, Lucy in October 2010. She also stars as Jeri in the Stuff You Should Know television show. Lucy has sung backup for Grammy Award-nominated artist Neko Case, including an appearance with Case on The Late Show with David Letterman. Two of her songs, “Once In” and “Starting Square” are featured on the soundtrack of the 2013 movie The Last Keepers.
